Cozy Study — Aesthetic Study Timer with Cinematic Late-Night Scenes
Cozy Study is a free aesthetic study timer for late-night focus sessions. Instead of a sterile Pomodoro clock, you study against cinematic scenes from real places — Tokyo in the rain, a New York bodega at 2 AM, a Tokyo capsule hotel, a night train rolling through a storm, the Eiffel Tower at 23:47, a midnight American diner, an empty airport gate at 3 AM, a closed bookstore after hours, an old candle-lit library, a foggy treehouse at dawn, and an Antarctic research station at 4 AM. Each scene has its own ambient soundtrack and a playful "STUDY UNTIL" hook that reframes the session as a tiny story.
What Cozy Study does
- Pomodoro presets — 25, 50, and 90 minute timers, plus custom durations up to 240 minutes.
- 11 cinematic study scenes — switchable with keys 1–9 and 0, each with matching ambient audio and weather particles (rain, snow, sparkles, dust motes).
- Subject and task tracking — tag each session with a subject (Math, Coding, Reading, anything you add) and an optional task name.
- Daily goal — set a daily study minutes goal; a progress ring fills as you study.
- Streaks and stats — track consecutive study days, total minutes, time per subject, and a weekly heatmap on the stats page.
- Fullscreen focus mode — press F to hide everything except the scene and timer. Great for study-with-me sessions or a second monitor.
- Keyboard shortcuts — Space to start/pause, R to end, S to shuffle the hook, M to mute, ↑/↓ for volume, 1–9 and 0 to switch scenes.
- Local-first and private — sessions, subjects, streaks, and goals are stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded.
- Free, no signup, no ads — open the page and press start.
The cinematic study scenes
Cozy Study ships with eleven hand-picked late-night locations, each chosen for the specific cozy-but-focused mood it creates:
- NYC Bodega — New York at 2 AM, coffee and chips and the bell on the door. Rain on the window.
- Tokyo Rain — Shibuya at 2:14 AM, neon reflections, rain on the asphalt.
- Capsule Hotel — Tokyo, 3:22 AM. Muffled city outside, the soft hum of the hallway.
- Night Train — somewhere moving, rain on the window, the rhythmic clack of the rails.
- Eiffel Tower — Paris at 23:47, the tower mid-sparkle, sleeping city below.
- Midnight Diner — somewhere in America, chrome and warm light at exactly 00:00.
- Empty Airport — gate B12 at 3 AM, dim corridors, distant announcements.
- Bookstore at 3 AM — closed, after hours, lamps still on between the shelves.
- Old Library — candle-lit, 3 AM, silence so quiet it gets loud.
- Foggy Treehouse — a forest at dawn, mist between the trees, motes of light.
- Antarctic Station — 4 AM on the ice, the aurora overhead, the wind a constant hush.
Who Cozy Study is for
Cozy Study is built for students cramming for exams, professionals doing deep work after hours, writers and coders who like late-night focus sessions, and anyone who finds normal Pomodoro apps too utilitarian. If you've ever opened a "study with me" video on YouTube to make your room feel less empty, this is the same idea — but it's the whole screen, and the timer is part of the scene.
How to use Cozy Study
- Open cozystudytimer.app and pick a duration — 25, 50, 90 minutes, or a custom value.
- Click a scene in the bottom bar, or press a number key 1–9 to switch.
- Press START SESSION. Add a task and subject if you want, or skip.
- Hit F for fullscreen and let the scene take over.
- When the timer ends, your session is saved automatically. Check the stats page for streaks and time per subject.
Frequently asked questions
Is Cozy Study really free?
Yes. No signup, no paywall, no ads. Cozy Study is a single-page web app you can use forever.
Do my sessions sync across devices?
No — by design. Everything is stored in your browser's local storage so the app stays fast, private, and works offline after first load. If you clear your browser data, your stats reset.
What makes it different from other aesthetic Pomodoro timers?
The scenes are specific, real places at specific late-night times, not generic gradients or lofi backgrounds. And every scene comes with its own "STUDY UNTIL" hook — small narrative prompts like "study until the rain stops" or "study until Paris falls asleep" — that turn each session into a tiny scene rather than a number ticking down.
Can I use Cozy Study as a "study with me" background?
Yes. Press F for fullscreen and the entire screen becomes the scene plus the timer. It works well on a laptop you keep open next to your work, or on a second monitor.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the timer, scenes, and audio continue to work without an internet connection. Refreshing without a connection may not work depending on your browser's cache.
